La Cue Billiards & Cafe, 213 McGuinness Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY
I'm really impressed by their excellent directions to their other location, but I couldn't help catching their misspelling of "opening" as "openning." |

L.A. Italian Restorante & Pizza, 887 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
Ooh, a handwritten menu! There's gotta be some kind of spelling errors here. Sure enough, there are a whole slew of them. For starters, on line 3 is "braciole." I assume that they meant "bracciole," a variant of "bracciola." Then, after salmon, there are two items in which "stuffed" is spelled "stuffet." With the second one, it appears that "calamari" - spelled correctly on the bottom line of this sign - is spelled "calamarii." (Also, strictly speaking, it should be "fillet," not "filet." However, the homophonous word is spelled with just one l when you refer to filet mignon.) A little below them, hard to see because of the reflection (of me) in the window, is what appears to be a misspelling of "prosciutto." (I can't make out whether they spelled it "prosictto" or "prosiutto," but it's definitely one letter short.) Along with that one and the next, "mozzarella" is misspelled in two different ways - first "mozzaralala," then "mozzerala." Several more lines down, they have a real goodie - potato "croquets." (For the record, croquet is a game in which players use mallets drive wooden balls through a series of wickets set out on a lawn. They presumably meant to write "potato croquettes.") After the $5.50 item which was erased - I wonder what that was - is "potobella" mushrooms, not "portabella" mushrooms. Then two lines under that is "escrole." (A little way above it, however, it's spelled correctly - "escarole.") Whew! On the upside, "zucchini" and "fagiola" were spelled correctly. (By the way, it's usually "pasta e fagiola" or "pasta e fagioli" - bean soup with pasta.) One more thing: I thought that "pizzaiola" was misspelled "pizziola," but the latter appears to be acceptable. At least, there are numerous entries for "pizziola" on the Internet - possibly all misspelled. |

It's not the first time for this one. In fact, since it's the third time, I probably won't be presenting another example of it. |

Zakopane, 714 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
However, it's only the second case of this one - "souveniers," rather than "souvenirs." |

Queens Haircutters Inc., 668 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
We've seen this establishment before, with a misspelling on its awning. This time the boo-boo is on a sign in its window - "permanet," instead of "permanent." On a different note, I like how they squeezed in "HAIR CUT MEN" as an afterthought. (It's very subtle, since it's inked in blue. The rest of the sign is penned in green.) They must not have been getting enough business from women, so they decided to do guys' hair, too. |

Garden Store, 626 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
It's supposed to be spelled "tobacco," not "tabacco." As far as "gazety," I have no idea. Since this store is in a neighborhood with many Polish-Americans, I thought that "gazety" is Polish for "magazine" or "newspaper," but none of the online translators I checked confirmed this. |

Marvelous Nails Inc., 598 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY
Last one, right at the bottom - "GIFT CERTIFICATE AVAILIBLE." It should read "GIFT CERTIFICATE AVAILABLE." |

Wei Je Industries Inc., 11 Jackson Street, Brooklyn, NY
They got it right on line three - "STAINLESS STEEL" - but they botched it on the first line - "STAINLESS STELL." |

Kimberlyn Supermarket, 785 Grand Street, Brooklyn, NY
I've found that supermarkets are great sources for misspelled signs. And what's even better is that they change their signs frequently, generally weekly, to advertise their latest sale items. So if you don't catch a good sign one week you can go back in a few days and try again. Anyway, the one here has "chunk" spelled "chunck." I've seen a lot worse. |

They "acept" food stamps, but do they accept them? That's the test of truth. |
